On a narrow plot, we proposed a serene, inward-looking sanctuary. The home was radically reconfigured to turn its back on the street and one side neighbour.
Inspired by Japanese minimalism, the design utilizes dark stained wood and natural stone to dissolve the structure into its lush surroundings. By setting back the upper floor and integrating a street-side green terrace, the building’s volume is visually softened. The interior focus shifts toward a private rear courtyard, where generous glazing, coffered windows, and a tranquil water feature create a seamless connection between the open-plan living areas and nature.

I graduated “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest in 2012 with a Master’s degree in architecture. I started working in 2007 as junior architect, then graduated to lead architect in 2012, and later founded Atelier Ciurea, my own practice, in 2018. Since 2007, I’ve worked on over 200 projects (as lead architect, interior designer and landscape designer), and I specialize in concept design for bespoke projects, with a background in residential architecture (single-family and multi-family housing) and public projects (hospitality, healthcare, offices, retail and funerary).
